As a business owner, it’s crucial to convert your business success into ongoing personal wealth along the way. Additionally, you need to work on making the business “sale ready” to eventually “sell it well.” Doing both will enable you to enjoy the quality of life choices you desire.
Building Wealth
- Define & Manage Your Wealth Gap – start by identifying your “Wealth Gap” (part of the Diagnostic Review). Use this gap to set annual business performance targets, aiming to achieve sufficient annual profit to sustain the business while also contributing to reducing your wealth gap, resulting in a more valuable business.
- Make the Business Attractive – research potential buyers/successors, and identify and understand their “desired value criteria.” Use this information to improve your business, making it more attractive to potential buyers and optimising the sale price.
- Set a Sale/Succession Date – setting a target helps you create a strong and achievable Sale Ready Plan.
- Update & Manage the Sale Ready Plan – as your sale target date approaches, your plan should include sale initiatives like:
– Developing communication resources, such as a sale dossier and sales aids.
– Negotiation strategies, including tax and legal considerations.
– Engaging with buyer targets, negotiating, and finalising the sale/transfer.
